PE 185/285 Flex Fitness

Flex fitness allows you to choose what class you would like to attend and which time works best for you, while providing the ultimate flexibility for every student's busy schedule. Need time off to study for an exam? No problem, no hassles with make-ups, no conflicts just choose the class and time that work best for you and show up. Flex fitness also gives each student the opportunity to explore a variety of classes. Imagine being able to break out of the rut, no more boredom from doing the same thing every time you work out. Need a change of pace? Try a different class, if you find one you like stick with it, it is your choice.


PE 185
Circuit Training


This course emphasizes general cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance. This course is designed for people who are looking for an introductory fitness course. This class gives instruction and practice in the use of Nautilus style resistance machines and aerobic exercise equipment to provide a total body workout. The typical class consists of alternating stations of aerobic and strength stations. The length of stations are adjusted to provide the appropriate level of intensity. This course is a great choice for the student wishing to get the most exercise benefit in the most time efficient manner.

PE 185 Weight Training


This course is designed for people with all levels of weight training experience. Students will be supervised and instructed in the proper lifting techniques. This class gives instruction and practice in the use of resistance exercise for increasing muscular strength and endurance. Instruction will be on individualized basis. Students can choose to design their own program or work with the instructor to create a custom program specific to their goals. The course will emphasize different effects from different workout types and proper lifting technique. Additionally, students will learn general weight room safety, spotting techniques and weight room
etiquette.

PE 180 Basic Circuit


In Basic Circuit you will learn many exercises to improve your body’s strength, energy, posture, and balance. The instructor will demonstrate about 20 different machines, and individually help each student use the equipment they choose. About 3 machines are taught each day, until a full circuit is completed. After that, non-machines exercises are emphasized. A great choice for the novice or beginning fitness participant.

PE 185 Sports Conditioning


This course is for the serious fitness student. Designed to provide the ultimate strengthening and stretching workout this class emphasizes muscle balance over bulk. This course focuses on merging the benefits of cardiovascular conditioning, dynamic sport conditioning, rehabilitation and functional training. In a typical class, students will use dumbbells, stability balls, resistance bands or tubing, and medicine balls (just to name a few) all to improve your health and physical ability. The heart of Fitness Conditioning revolves around an exercise called the Matrix. This exercise works the entire body in all three fundamental movement planes. This combination will not only burn calories, develop long lean muscles but it will also strengthen the spine, shoulder hip and knee joints. Additionally, this exercise will improve flexibility, improve body composition, improve sport performance and reduce the risk of injury. This class is a must for physically active adults who wish to remain active. An excellent choice for those who are looking for an "all in one" exercise class.

PE 185 Fitness Conditioning


This course is designed to maximize each students fitness development. In Fitness Conditioning you will learn many exercises to improve your body’s strength, energy, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility and endurance. The instructor will create activities to challenge each of these fitness components, all in a fast paced fun environment. Each student will get individual help performing each of the activities and the equipment they use. Activities vary so that boredom and plateaus are minimized. This class may use medicine balls, resistance bands. sport games and other materials each session, until the desired fitness goal is completed. A great choice for the intermediate to advanced fitness participant. This class is another great choice for those students looking for an "all in one" exercise class.

PE 185 Day Hiking

This course will introduce a sample of day excursions between 4 and 10 miles in length on a variety of surfaces: asphalt, gravel, natural trails: flat and hilly within the surrounding area. Focus on cardiovascular fitness and burning calories while reducing stress and anxiety. Learn many of the neighborhood and pedestrian paths in addition to the approximately 180 parks that Portland has to offer.

PE 185 Pilates

Pilates is a powerful new total body sculpting system designed to help you lose weight, sculpt long, lean muscles, and reshape your entire body...FAST! Unlike most home fitness programs, Pilates is ideal for everyone, young or old, whether you are very fit or out of shape.

Pilates is a uniquely designed system that targets specific and significant muscles of your body for proper development and sculpting. The program is powered by the “dynamic sequencing" system. This system not only relates to the series of exorcises provided, but also the pace at which they can be done. Combine that, and you have a program that will help you feel much better about yourself.

PE 185 Pilates II

Pilates II focuses on building a healthy, injury-free body by encouraging controlled and concentrated movement. It centers the body with breathing awareness while maintaining dynamic spiral stabilization. Pilates is a full body-conditioning program comprised of a series of approximately 500 designed movements preformed on a mat. Pilates improves strength, flexibility, balance, control and muscular symmetry .The rhythmic exercises promote elongated and toned muscles, and are noted for developing abdomen, lower back and buttocks strength, promoting a strong body core.

People of all ages can use Pilates for their general fitness or cross training with other sports, dance and exercise regimes to greatly improve their performance.
